The quickest way to shut down your computer in Windows 10 is to press and hold the power button on your computer’s housing. This will immediately turn off the system and any open applications.
Alternatively, you can press the Windows key + X on your keyboard to bring up the Power User menu at the bottom-left of the screen. Click on Shut Down and the computer will begin its shutdown process.
You can also bring up the Start menu and then click on the power button icon in the lower-right corner. The same power menu will appear as when you pressed the Windows key + X. From this power menu, you can choose to Sleep, Shut Down, or Restart your computer.
If you prefer using the Command Line interface, you can open the Run dialogue box (Windows key + R) and type ‘shutdown -s’ for a standard shutdown or ‘shutdown -r’ for a restart.
Finally, if you just want to send a simple command from your desktop without hunting around for the other options, you can simply create a shortcut to the taskbar by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting New > Shortcut. In the location box, type the command ‘shutdown.exe -s -t 0’ and it will automatically run the shutdown command when you click it.
However you choose to do it, shutting down Windows 10 doesn’t need to be complicated. With just a few clicks or keystrokes, you can shut down your computer and be on your way.
