Zipping a file
Zipping is a method of compressing a file or multiple files within a folder into one file. This can be done using certain software such as Winzip and 7-Zip.
1) Find the file or folder you would like to zip.
2) Right-click on the file or folder and select “Send To” and then “Compressed (Zipped) Folder.”
3) A zipped folder with the same name as the file or folder will appear alongside it.
4) To save space, you can delete the original file or folder. The zipped version will remain.
Alternatively, to zip files using specific software such as Winzip or 7-Zip:
1) Open the software.
2) Select “New” and choose where you’d like the zipped file to be saved.
3) Select the file/s or folder/s you’d like to compress, and click Add.
4) Click the “Zip” button if you are using Winzip, and “OK” in the 7-Zip dialogue box. The zipped folder will be saved to the location specified.
Unzipping a File
Unzipping is the process of extracting the contents of a zipped file. This can be done using certain software such as Winzip and 7-Zip.
1) Find the zipped file. Right-click on it, and select “Extract All.”
2) An Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialogue box will appear. Select where you’d like the extracted files to be saved.
3) Click “Extract” and the files will be extracted to the selected location.
Alternatively, to unzip files using specific software such as Winzip or 7-Zip:
1) Open the software.
2) Select “Open,” and locate the zipped file.
3) Select “Extract” in Winzip, and “Uncompress to” in 7-Zip, and specify a location to save the extracted files.
4) Click “Ok” and the files will be extracted.
