Windows Defender is Microsoft’s anti-virus and malware protection tool. It is included in Windows 8, 8.1, and 10. As long as it is enabled, Windows Defender will provide real-time protection against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It scans your computer regularly and can even update itself to get the latest protection against the newest threats.
Turning Windows Defender On
1. For Windows 8 or Windows 8.1:
• Open the Charms Menu by pressing Win+C on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can open the Charms Menu by swiping in from the right side of the screen.
• Select Search, then type “Windows Defender” in the search box.
• The search results should display an icon for Windows Defender. Select it.
• When Windows Defender opens, select the Real-Time Protection option. This will enable Windows Defender’s protection on your system.
2. For Windows 10:
• Open the Start menu and type “Windows Defender” in the search box.
• Select the Windows Defender icon in the search results.
• When Windows Defender opens, select the Turn On button next to the Real-Time Protection option. This will enable Windows Defender’s protection on your system.
Turning Windows Defender Off
1. For Windows 8 or Windows 8.1:
• Open the Charms Menu by pressing Win+C on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can open the Charms Menu by swiping in from the right side of the screen.
• Select Search, then type “Windows Defender” in the search box.
• The search results should display an icon for Windows Defender. Select it.
• When Windows Defender opens, select the Real-Time Protection option.
• A dialog box should appear with a “Turn Off” button. Select this to disable Windows Defender’s protection.
2. For Windows 10:
• Open the Start menu and type “Windows Defender” in the search box.
• Select the Windows Defender icon in the search results.
• When Windows Defender opens, select the Turn Off button next to the Real-Time Protection option. This will disable Windows Defender’s protection on your system.
It is important to note that disabling Windows Defender is not recommended in any case. If you do choose to turn off Windows Defender, make sure to use another reliable antivirus program to protect your system from viruses and other malicious software.
