Resetting drivers on your Windows operating system can be done in a variety of ways. Depending on the type of driver and the version of Windows you have installed, the steps to reset them may vary.
For Windows 10
1. Open Settings by clicking the cog wheel icon at the bottom left of the Start Menu.
2. Click Update & Security, then select Device Manager from the left pane.
3. Look through the list of devices and expand any that appear, to find the exact device you want to reset.
4. Right click the device and select Uninstall Device. This will uninstall the driver associated with the device.
5. Once the uninstallation is complete, restart your computer. The device should be automatically reinstalled with the default drivers when the computer starts up again.
For Windows 8/8.1
1. Open Control Panel by typing ‘Control Panel’ into the search bar.
2. Select Hardware and Sound, then Device Manager from the list on the left.
3. Look through the list of devices until you find the one you want to reset.
4. Right click the device and select Uninstall.
5. When prompted, click ‘Delete the driver software for this device’ and confirm the uninstallation.
6. Restart your computer and the device will be reinstalled with the default drivers.
For Windows Vista
1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.
2. Select System and Maintenance and then Device Manager from the list.
3. Look through the list of devices and expand any that appear, to find the exact device you want to reset.
4. Right click the device and select Uninstall.
5. When prompted, click ‘Delete the driver software for this device’ and confirm the uninstallation.
6. Restart your computer and the device will be reinstalled with the default drivers.
For Windows XP
1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel.
2. Double-click System and then select the Hardware tab.
3. Click Device Manager.
4. Look through the list of devices and expand any that appear, to find the exact device you want to reset.
5. Right click the device and select Uninstall.
6. When prompted, click ‘Delete the driver software for this device’ and confirm the uninstallation.
7. Restart your computer and the device will be reinstalled with the default drivers.
