Moving files from one folder to another is a simple task that can be done in various ways, depending on the operating system you are using.
In Windows 10
• Open File Explorer. This can be done by pressing the Windows key + the letter E on the keyboard.
• Locate the two folders containing the files you wish to move: the source – from where the files are taken – and the destination folder – to where the files will be moved.
• Highlight the files to be moved. You can do this by clicking on each file or selecting multiple files by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the cursor over them.
• Once the files are highlighted, click and hold the left mouse button and drag them to the destination folder.
• Continue to hold the left mouse button until you see a new window pop-up.
• Release the left mouse button. The pop-up window will ask you if you want to Move, Copy or Create Shortcuts. Choose Move, then click OK.
• Your files have now been successfully moved from the source folder to the destination folder.
In Mac OS
• Open the Finder.
• Locate the two folders containing the files you wish to move: the source – from where the files are taken – and the destination folder – to where the files will be moved.
• Highlight the files to be moved. You can do this by clicking on each file or selecting multiple files by holding down the command key and clicking.
• Once the files are highlighted, click and hold the left mouse button and drag them to the destination folder.
• Continue to hold the left mouse button until you see a new window pop-up.
• Release the left mouse button. The pop-up window will ask you if you want to Move, Copy or Create Aliases. Choose Move.
• Your files have now been successfully moved from the source folder to the destination folder.
In Linux
• Open the Terminal.
• Type in the command “mv” followed by the path of the files you wish to move. For example, “mv /home/user/sourcefolder/file1 /destinationfolder/file1”
• Press Enter. The files should now be successfully moved from the source folder to the destination folder.
Using Online Cloud Storage Services
You can also move files from one folder to another using online cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and iCloud.
• Log in to your cloud storage provider.
• Find the source folder containing the files you wish to move, and locate the destination folder you want to move them to.
• Highlight the files to be moved.
• Click and hold the left mouse button and drag them to the destination folder.
• Release the left mouse button. A pop-up window will appear asking you if you want to Move, Copy or Create Shortcuts. Choose Move.
• Your files have now been successfully moved from the source folder to the destination folder.
