Windows gives you a variety of options for managing your computer’s power settings. You can create custom power plans, adjust the settings for your active plan, and configure settings for when your laptop is running on battery power.
Custom Power Plans
Windows provides several power plans to choose from and you can customize each one to your needs. To customize a power plan:
1. Go to the Start menu and type “Power Options” into the search box. Click the “Power Options” result.
2. In the “Select a power plan” section, choose the power plan that you would like to customize and click “Change Plan Settings”.
3. A new window will open displaying the available settings. Select the settings that you would like to change and adjust the slider bar for each option as desired. When you are done, click “Save Changes”.
4. If you would like to create a custom power plan, click the “Create a Power Plan” link on the left side of the window.
5. Give your plan a name and set the additional parameters as desired. When done, click “Create”.
Adjusting Active Power Plan
You can also adjust the active power plan without creating a new one. To do this:
1. Go to the Start menu and type “Power Options” into the search box. Click the “Power Options” result.
2. On the left-hand side, click the “Change Plan Settings” link next to your active plan.
3. On the next page, select the settings that you would like to change and adjust the slider bar for each option as desired. When you are done, click “Save Changes”.
Configuring Battery Settings
You can also configure battery settings such as when your laptop should go into sleep mode or hibernate. To do this:
1. Go to the Start menu and type “Power Options” into the search box. Click the “Power Options” result.
2. On the left-hand side, click the “Change Advanced Power Settings” link.
3. A new window will open and list all of the available settings. Click on the setting that you would like to adjust and configure it as desired. When done, click “Apply”.
4. Repeat this step for all other settings that you would like to adjust. Once done, click “OK” to save your changes.
