Identifying the graphics card installed in a Windows-based computer can be done in several different ways depending on the version of Windows you are running.
Windows 10
If you’re running Windows 10, the easiest way to identify your graphics card is using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. To open this tool, press the Windows key + R to open the Run command and type in “dxdiag” without quotes and press Enter.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, you will find information about your graphics card listed under Display Devices. It will show you the name and manufacturer of your graphics card, as well as other details such as the amount of video memory and the version of the driver being used.
You can also use the Device Manager to view information about your graphics card. To open the Device Manager, right-click the Start button, then select Device Manager from the context menu.
The Device Manager will list all the hardware you have installed in your computer, including the graphics card. Simply expand the Display adapters section, then double-click your graphics card to view its details.
Windows 8
If you’re running Windows 8, you can use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool as described above. However, you can also use the Task Manager to view information about your graphics card. To open the Task Manager, right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager from the context menu, then click the Performance tab.
In the Performance tab, you will see information about your graphics card listed under the Graphics entry. It will show you the name and manufacturer of your graphics card, as well as the amount of video memory and the version of the driver being used.
Windows 7
For Windows 7, you can use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool as described above. Alternatively, you can use the System Information utility to view information about your graphics card. To open System Information, click the Start button, then type “System Information” in the search box and press Enter.
In the System Information window, expand the Components section and click Display. This will show you the name and manufacturer of your graphics card, as well as the amount of video memory and the version of the driver being used.
Windows Vista
The easiest way to identify your graphics card in Windows Vista is to use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool as described above. You can also use the System Properties window to view information about your graphics card. To open the System Properties window, right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties from the context menu.
In the System Properties window, switch to the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. The Device Manager will list all the hardware you have installed in your computer including the graphics card. Simply expand the Display adapters section, then double-click your graphics card to view its details.
Windows XP
For Windows XP, you can again use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool as described above. Another way to identify your graphics card is to use the Display Properties window. To open this window, right-click the desktop and select Properties from the context menu.
In the Display Properties window, switch to the Settings tab and click the Advanced button. This will open the Advanced Display Properties window which will show you the name and manufacturer of your graphics card, as well as the amount of video memory and the version of the driver being used.
