Encrypting a file in Windows is a straightforward process. Depending on the version of Windows that you’re using, there are different ways to encrypt a file.
Using Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 7
1. Right-click on the file or folder you would like to encrypt.
2. From the context menu that appears, select the “Properties” option.
3. Click the “Advanced” button from the General tab.
4. Tick the box labelled “Encrypt contents to secure data”, then click the “OK” button.
5. Click the “OK” button in the Properties window to save the changes.
6. You will be prompted to confirm whether you want to apply these settings to existing files in the folder or subfolders as well. Select the appropriate option and click the “OK” button.
7. A confirmation window will appear. Click the “OK” button to finish the job.
Using Windows Vista
1. Select the file or folder you need to encrypt.
2. Right-click on it and select “Properties” from the context menu.
3. Click the “Advanced” button located in the General tab.
4. Tick the box labelled “Encrypt contents to secure data”, then click the “OK” button.
5. Click the “OK” button in the Properties window to save the changes.
6. You will be asked if you want to encrypt the entire drive. Select the appropriate option, then click the “OK” button.
Using Windows XP
1. Select the file or folder you would like to encrypt.
