First, open the Start menu and select Control Panel from the list of options. You’ll now be in the main window of the Windows Control Panel. From here, you can customize the settings for your mouse or other pointing device.
In Windows 10, you can also open Mouse Properties directly from the start menu.
Once you’re in the Mouse Properties window, you can begin customizing your mouse settings. On the first tab, ‘Buttons’, you can adjust the number of buttons on your mouse, the speed of double-clicking, and the click-lock feature. This section is also where you can adjust the scroll wheel settings, including adjusting the number of lines it scrolls when you turn it, as well as its sensitivity.
If you want to adjust the pointer itself, click on the ‘Pointer Options’ tab. Here you can adjust the size, color and motion of the pointer, as well as how quickly it moves across the screen. You can also enable or disable the ‘Show Location of Pointer When I Press the CTRL Key’ feature. This allows you to easily locate your cursor even when it is obscured by another window.
Finally, you can go to the last tab labeled ‘Hardware’. This tab lets you further customize your mouse by allowing you to adjust the hardware acceleration (the speed at which movements are communicated to your computer). You can also set specific preferences in the ‘Advanced’ options, such as adjusting the polling rate of your mouse.
When you’ve finished making your changes, click ‘Apply’ to save them. Your mouse settings should now be customized to match your preferences.
