Creating a folder in Windows is relatively simple and straightforward, regardless of whether you use Windows 7, 8, or 10.
The first thing to do is to check that the folder does not already exist. To do this, open up the File Explorer (also known as Windows Explorer). Depending on your version of Windows, you may see the icon in the taskbar or in the Start Menu. If you cannot find it, simply search for ‘File Explorer’ in the Search Bar.
Once you have opened the File Explorer, navigate to the location where you want to create the new folder. For example, if you want to create the folder on your Desktop, left click on the Desktop folder on the left-hand side of the window.
Now right click on an empty space within the existing files and folder structure and select ‘New’. You will then be presented with a list of options which include things such as ‘folder’ and ‘word document’. Select ‘folder’.
Your new folder will now appear within the existing files and folder structure. Rename this folder to whatever you wish, by right clicking on the folder itself and selecting ‘rename’. Alternatively, you can simply left click on the folder and press F2.
Once you have chosen the desired folder name, press enter to save the changes. Your new folder is now created.
You can also create a folder from the keyboard by pressing ‘Ctrl’ + ‘Shift’ + ‘N’. This will create a new folder without having to open the File Explorer at all.
The newly created folder will be named ‘New Folder’, so remember to rename it to whatever you prefer.
In addition to creating a folder, you can also create a sub-folder. To do this you should right click on the folder which you would like to contain the sub-folder, and follow the same steps as you would when creating a folder (as detailed above).
Finally, if you are looking to save time, you can create multiple folders at once. To do this, select the existing folders and files which you would like to duplicate, right click and select ‘Copy’. Then right click on the location where you would like to add the duplicates, select ‘Paste’ and select ‘Create copies’. When the copying process is complete, the duplicates will be created.
Overall, creating a folder in Windows is a straightforward process. You can do so via the File Explorer, from the keyboard or by creating multiple copies at once. With that being said, make sure that the folder does not already exist before you go ahead with creating it.
