Windows 10 includes an extensive selection of power settings that can be configured to suit your needs. These settings are found in the Control Panel.
1. To access the power settings, open the Start menu, select Settings and click System.
2. On the left side of the System window, click Power & Sleep.
3. When you’re on the Power & Sleep page, you’ll find two sections: one for when your computer is plugged into a power source, and one for when your computer is running on battery power. Select which one you want to configure.
4. When you select the power source you want to adjust, you’ll see a number of different settings you can customize.
5. If you have a laptop, you also have the option to turn on Battery Saver mode, which will conserve power by adjusting certain system and device settings, such as reducing your screen brightness and turning off background applications and services.
6. Underneath the Battery Saver mode option, you’ll find the “Change Advanced Power Settings” link. This will open the Power Options window, which has several additional settings that you can customize.
7. On the left side of this window, you’ll see a list of options, such as “Processor Power Management”, “Hard Disk”, “Wireless Adapter Settings”, and “PCI Express”. Click each of these to reveal their respective settings.
8. For each of the options, you’ll have the choice of manually setting your own values or selecting the default preset. If you select the default preset, the settings will be set according to the recommendations of Microsoft.
9. On the left side of the Power Options window, you’ll also find the “Sleep” option, which allows you to configure how long your computer will stay on before entering sleep mode. You can also set the amount of time your PC will remain in sleep mode before it automatically shuts down.
10. Once you’ve finished configuring your settings, click OK to apply the changes.
