To check the power settings for your network adapter, you will need to access your system’s Control Panel.
1. Click on the Start menu and select “Control Panel”.
2. In the Control Panel window, select “Network and Internet”.
3. Select “Network and Sharing Center” from the list of options.
4. Select “Change Adapter Settings” from the left-hand side of the window.
5. Right-click on the Local Area Connection, or the name of the adapter associated with your connection and select “Properties”.
6. Select the “Configure” button.
7. Select the “Power Management” tab.
On this tab, you can adjust the power settings of your network adapter. There are three main settings available:
1. Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power: This is the default setting, and it allows the computer to turn off the adapter to save energy while in Sleep or Hibernate mode.
2. Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer: This feature allows the adapter to be woken up only when a specific packet arrives addressed to the adapter’s MAC address. This prevents the adapter from being accidentally woken up by packets that are not intended for it.
3. Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby: This feature allows the adapter to wake the computer from Sleep or Hibernate mode without the computer having to be manually powered on.
You can also adjust the power management settings for the wireless adapter, if you have one. To do this, select the wireless adapter in the Network and Sharing Center, then select the “Power Management” tab. You may also need to adjust the Advanced Power Settings, which can be found in the same window.
These power settings allow you to customize the power usage of your network adapter and conserve energy when necessary. Making sure these settings are properly configured will ensure that your network adapter is running as efficiently as possible.
