There are a few different things that you should try if your scanner says “no scanner detected.”
1. Check the connections
The most common cause for a scanner not being detected is that the connection between the computer and the scanner is not working. With most scanners, this connection will be via a USB cable. First, check that the USB cable is plugged in securely at both ends and that it is connected to the correct port on the computer and the scanner. If the connections appear to be correct, try unplugging the USB cable and plugging it back in again. If the problem persists, you may want to try using a different USB cable.
2. Check the power
If the USB connection is working properly, you should make sure that the scanner is getting power. Most scanners get their power from the USB connection, but some scanners may require an additional power source. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure that the scanner is receiving enough power.
3. Restart the computer
Sometimes restarting the computer can help to resolve the issue. This can reset any corrupt drivers or settings which may be causing the scanner not to be detected. To restart the computer, click on the ‘Start’ button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Select ‘Restart’ and follow any on-screen instructions.
4. Update the drivers
Outdated or corrupt drivers can prevent a scanner from being detected. You should check the manufacturer’s website to see if there are any updated drivers available for your scanner. Make sure to download the correct version of the drivers for your operating system. Once downloaded, double-click on the installation file and follow any on-screen prompts to install the drivers.
5. Reinstall the software
If the scanner is still not being detected, you may need to reinstall the scanning software. This can often resolve issues with scanners that are not being detected. Uninstall the existing scanning software from your computer by going to ‘Settings’, ‘Apps’ and selecting the software from the list. Download the latest version of the software from the manufacturer’s website and install it on your computer.
6. Check for hardware conflicts
It is also possible that your scanner is conflicting with other hardware. To check for any hardware conflicts, open the ‘Device Manager’. You can do this by right-clicking on the ‘Start’ button and selecting ‘Device Manager’ from the menu. Look for any errors that may be listed against the scanner or any other hardware. If you find any, try updating the drivers or disabling the conflicting device.
7. Test on another computer
If none of the above steps have solved the issue, it may be worth testing the scanner on another computer. This will help to determine whether the problem is with the scanner or the computer.
If none of these steps have helped to resolve the issue, you may need to contact the manufacturer for further assistance.
