Bitmain, a major manufacturer of Bitcoin ASICs, has released its new air-cooled BTC miner, Antminer T21. The miner can withstand high temperatures and has a computing power of 190 terahashes per second. Bitmain unveiled the Antminer T21 at the Blockchain Life 2023 Forum in Dubai, where the company was a diamond sponsor. The miner supports the SHA256 mining algorithm used for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It is expected to begin shipping in January 2024. Bitmain also offered buyers of the Antminer T21 a price protection plan in anticipation of potential declines in cryptocurrency prices.
Meanwhile, Canaan, another prominent ASIC manufacturer, released its new A14 series miners in September 2023. The company also launched its sustainability-focused A1466 and A1466I miners in the Middle East. The ASIC industry, however, has faced challenges due to a significant drop in prices and increased market saturation. Despite these challenges, Canaan and Bitmain continue to introduce new mining devices.
In another development, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler highlighted the agency’s enforcement actions in his speech at the 2023 Securities Enforcement Forum. Gensler emphasized the SEC’s focus on the cryptocurrency market, noting that numerous individuals and firms have been charged for violations in this field. He reiterated his view that most cryptocurrencies are subject to securities regulations and stressed the need for stricter regulations to address scams and fraud in the crypto ecosystem. Gensler’s remarks have sparked discussions and calls for more clarity on crypto regulations from the industry and policymakers.
