Trezor, a provider of cryptocurrency hardware wallets, is currently investigating a recent phishing campaign after users reported receiving phishing emails. The anonymous blockchain investigator ZachXBT alerted users to the attack on his Telegram channel on Oct. 26. The attack involves sending phishing emails to Trezor customers, inviting them to download a firmware update for their Trezor devices. The emails are sent from the email address amministrazione@sideagroup.com. This incident has raised concerns of a potential breach for Trezor or its shipping company, Evri. Trezor’s brand ambassador, Josef Tetek, stated that the company is aware of the phishing campaign and is actively addressing it. He stressed that Trezor never asks for users’ recovery seed, PIN, or passphrase and advised users to follow the instructions provided by the connected Trezor hardware wallet. Despite efforts to combat phishing attacks, cryptocurrency investors continue to be targeted. In September, a major crypto investor reportedly lost $24 million to a phishing campaign. According to cybersecurity reports, there has been a 40% increase in cryptocurrency phishing attacks in 2022.
