A company called Unciphered has reached out to former Ripple CTO Stefan Thomas, offering to help him unlock a hard drive containing over 7,000 Bitcoin (BTC) that he has been unable to access for several years. Thomas forgot the information needed to access the hard drive, and he has used eight out of the ten attempts to enter the password. Unciphered claims to have developed a method to crack the hardware and safely access the Bitcoin keys. They have offered to demonstrate their capability to Thomas before moving forward. Unciphered CEO Eric Michaud stated that the company has already created a sustainable business helping people recover lost cryptocurrency. There have been many similar stories involving lost or inaccessible cryptocurrency, and it is estimated that around 20% of Bitcoin’s total supply may be permanently lost. In other news, the United States House of Representatives has selected Mike Johnson as its next speaker, making him the second in line to the US presidency. Johnson’s views on cryptocurrency are currently unknown. This marks the first time in over three weeks that the House has had a clearly defined leadership. With the new speaker in place, the House can bring legislation related to cryptocurrency to the floor for voting.
