Deleting a file from your computer in Windows is a straightforward process regardless of which version of Windows you are running. There are multiple ways to delete a file but the most common way is to first locate the file using Windows Explorer and right-click on its icon. From there, you can select the Delete option.
If you are running Windows 7, open up the Start menu by clicking the Windows logo at the bottom-left corner of your Desktop. From here, you can type in “Windows Explorer” in the Search field, or simply click on the Windows Explorer icon to open it up.
Now that Windows Explorer is open, you can browse through the folders in your computer to find the file(s) you want to delete. When you have located the file, you can right-click on its icon and select the Delete option from the menu that appears. A confirmation dialog box will appear asking if you are sure you want to delete the file; if you answer yes, then the file will be permanently removed from your computer.
In case you are running Windows 8/8.1, you can access the File Explorer by pressing the Windows + E keys on your keyboard. This will open up the same Windows Explorer window and you can proceed as described in the step above.
If you left-click on the file itself, you will see a preview of its contents on the right side of the window. If you are trying to delete multiple files, you can select them all by pressing and holding the CTRL key while clicking on their icons. After that, you can right-click on the selection and select the Delete option to remove them all at once.

Finally, you can delete files from the Recycle Bin. All deleted files are stored by default in the Recycle Bin until you empty it. To do this, open up the Recycle Bin folder by double-clicking its icon and select the file you want to delete. Then, right-click on the selection and choose the Empty Recycle Bin option. This will permanently delete all the files stored in the Recycle Bin.
