How can I search for a file or folder in Windows?

To search for a file or folder in Windows the user may use the search bar or the Run command.

Search Bar
1. Open the Start Menu by either pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or by clicking the Windows button in the lower left corner of your screen.
2. Type the name of the file or folder you are looking for into the Search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu.
3. Any results will appear in list view below the Search bar. To open a search result, select it and press Enter or double-click it with your mouse.

Run Command
1. Open the Start Menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or by clicking the Windows button in the lower left corner of your screen.
2. In the search box, type “run” and press Enter.
3. The Run command window will open.
4. In the Run window, type in the name of the file or folder you are looking for. The results will appear in list format below the box.
5. To open a search result, select it and press Enter or double-click it with your mouse.

Advanced Search
1. Open the Start Menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or by clicking the Windows button in the lower left corner of your screen.
2. In the search box, type “search” or “advanced search” and press Enter.
3. The Advanced search window will open.
4. In the advanced search window, type in the name of the file or folder you are looking for.
5. You can also filter the search results by file type, date, size, and other criteria.
6. To open a search result, select it and press Enter or double-click it with your mouse.

Search Tools
1. Open the Start Menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or by clicking the Windows button in the lower left corner of your screen.
2. Select the “Search Tools” option from the list of options.
3. A drop-down menu of search tools will appear.
4. From this list, select the one that best suits your needs (e.g., “Search Computer” to search the entire system).

Search Index

7. Select “Ok” to save the settings.
8. Return to the Start Menu and type in the name of the file or folder you are looking for.
9. The results should appear in list view below the Search bar.
