Changing your network type in Windows from Public to Private
Windows 7, 8, and 10 all have the ability to change a network from public to private.
If you are using Windows 7, the steps are as follows:
1. From the Start menu, open the Network and Sharing Center.
2. Click on Change adapter settings.
3. Right-click the connection you want to change.
4. Select Properties.
5. In the Networking tab, select the type of network you want it to be. (Public or Private)
6. Click OK.
If you are using Windows 8 or 10, follow these steps:
1. Open the Network and Sharing Center. You can do this by typing “network and sharing center” in the Start Menu search box.
2. On the left side of the screen, click on “Change adapter settings.”
3. Right click on the connection you want to change.
4. Select Properties.
5. In the Networking tab, select the type of network you want it to be. (Public or Private)
6. Click OK.
These steps should successfully change the network type from public to private. It is important to note that even when a network is set to “private,” there may still be some security risks associated with your network connection. In order to further secure your private network, consider setting up a separate password and/or firewall.
It is also important to note that if you use a wireless connection, you should always make sure that it is set to “Private” rather than “Public.” This is because “Public” networks are usually not secure and can potentially be accessed by anyone within the range of the network.
Although these steps should help you change your network type from public to private, it is important to consult the user manual for your specific operating system for more detailed instructions. Additionally, if you are ever unsure about any steps you are taking, it is a good idea to contact a qualified technician for assistance.
