1. Open the Control Panel by using the Start menu or searching for it in the Windows search bar.
2. Once the Control Panel is open, locate and select the “Power Options” icon.
3. Then, you will see a list of different power plans, such as Balanced, High Performance, and Power Saver. Select one of the available plans that suits your needs. If the desired plan is not available, click on “Create a Power Plan” to create one.
4. Once you have the desired plan selected, click “Change Plan Settings” in order to adjust the settings.
5. Within this section, you can adjust more detailed power settings such as the display turn-off time, the sleep mode, the hard disk turn-off time and the computer turn-off time.
6. You can also access the advanced power settings from this window.
7. Here, you can choose to customize the settings for each type of power plan, such as the processor power management settings, PCI Express settings, USB selective suspend settings and processor speed settings.
8. As you customize these settings, take note of the changes you make so that you can remember which settings are optimal for your use.
9. When you are finished customizing, click “Apply” to apply the changes and “OK” to close the window.
10. When you are done, you can go back to the main Power Options window and click “Save Changes” to save the settings. This will ensure that the settings you chose remain in effect each time you turn on your computer.
