Power Options in the Windows Control Panel allow you to configure your system’s power settings. This includes setting the time before your computer goes into sleep mode, setting how much CPU performance is available when running on battery, and customizing how Windows will notify you when you are running low on battery.
The Power Options menu is divided into three primary sections: Plan Settings, Advanced Settings and Additional Plans.
Plan Settings
The Plan Settings section gives you the option to choose between pre-configured power plans like Balanced, Power Saver, High Performance and Additional plans. Choosing a plan gives you different settings for when the computer is plugged in and when it is running off of battery. These settings include automatically turning off the display, dimming the display brightness, disabling USB selective suspend and more.
Advanced Settings
The Advanced Settings section provides additional options that allow you to fine-tune your power settings, including setting the time before your display turns off, dimming the display brightness and configuring processor performance.
Additional Plans
The Additional Plans section offers a variety of options that allow you to customize your power settings even more. These settings allow you to create your own power plan with specific settings for when your computer is plugged in or running off of battery.
The Additional Plans section also gives you the options of creating Power Plans specifically tailor-made for gaming, video editing and other activities.
Finally, in the Additional Plans section, you have access to the Battery Usage page. This page offers important stats about your system’s battery life, allowing you to optimize your power settings for better battery life.
The Power Options window in the Windows Control Panel gives users the ability to fine-tune their system’s power settings for optimal performance, battery life, and energy efficiency. With the range of customization features available, you can configure your Windows system to meet your individual needs.
