The system date and time must be properly configured in order to ensure that all software and other resources on the computer operate correctly. Depending on the operating system, there are several ways to configure the system date and time.
Windows 7
1. In the Start Menu, click the Control Panel icon.
2. In the Control Panel, select “Date and Time”.
3. Click the ‘Change date and time’ button in the Date and Time window.
4. Change the month, day, and year using the dropdown menus. Then, adjust the hour and minute using the up and down arrows. If necessary, you can also change the time zone or activate the Daylight Saving Time.
5. When you are finished, click the OK button and then click the Apply button. The changes will take effect immediately.
Mac OS X
1. From the desktop, click the clock at the top right.
2. Select Open Date & Time Preferences from the pop-up menu.
3. In the Date & Time window, you can adjust the date, time, and time zone.
4. To change the date, select the date from the calendar, or use the up and down arrow keys.
5. To change the time, click the hour or minute fields and type in the new values. If necessary, you can also turn on the 24-hour format.
6. When you are finished, click the OK button, then click the Save Changes button in the confirmation window.
Linux
1. Open a terminal window and type the command “date -s ‘
2. Replace
3. Press Enter to set the date and time.
4. If necessary, you can also use the command “timedatectl” to view and configure the time zone.
Once the system date and time are properly configured, it is important to verify that the changes have taken effect by checking the clock on the desktop or the time in applications like email programs. If necessary, you can also use the commands “date” (Windows and Mac OS X) or “timedatectl status” (Linux) to check the date and time from within the terminal window.
