Adding a Printer in Windows
In order to add a printer in Windows, you must have the necessary hardware and compatible software installed. The process of adding a printer differs slightly depending on the version of Windows being used.
For Windows 7:
1. Click the Start menu and select Devices and Printers.
2. Within this window, select Add a Printer.
3. A new window will open up and prompt you to choose the type of printer you are using. Select either a local or network printer, then follow the steps as necessary.
For Windows 8:
1. Open the Charms bar by swiping from the right edge of the screen or moving the mouse cursor to the top-right corner. Then select Devices.
2. Select Add a Printer.
3. Choose either a local or network printer following the steps as necessary. Then select The printer that I want isn’t listed.
4. Select Add a local printer. Then select Create a new port and choose the required port type.
5. Follow the instructions as prompted.
Removing a Printer in Windows
Removing a printer in Windows is just as straightforward as adding one. Depending on your version of Windows, the steps to remove a printer differ slightly.
For Windows 7:
1. Click the Start menu and select Devices and Printers.
2. Within this window, right-click the printer you wish to remove and select Remove Device.
3. Once the printer has been removed, it should no longer appear in the devices and printers list.
For Windows 8:
1. Open the Charms bar by swiping from the right edge of the screen or moving the mouse cursor to the top-right corner. Then select Devices.
2. Right-click the printer you wish to remove and select Remove Device.
3. Once the printer has been removed, it should no longer appear in the devices and printers list.
You should always be sure to uninstall any related printer software before removing the actual hardware. This can be done by opening the Control Panel and navigating to the Programs and Features section. From here, select the printer software and uninstall.
